Eagles start fast, hang on for win over Erie Central

The Grove City Highfootball team was on track — until it nearly was derailed.

After taking a quick 14-0 lead, the Eagles had to hang on to beat Erie Central Tech 21-12 in the season opener atForker Field Friday night.

On Grove City's first offensive play of the game, Dwayne Martin caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Mike Burk.

Burk later scored on a quarterback sneak before leaving the game with a shoulder injury.

The Eagles didn't score again until Joe Kochemba rumbled 57 yards for a score in the final two minutes of the game.

Clinging to a 14-12 lead with four minutes to go, Marty Phipps intercepted a Central pass in the end zone on a first-and-goal from the 3 to end the threat.

Keystone 48, A-C Valley 20 — Luke Walker caught a 27 yard touchdown pass fromMichael Orrvick in the first half, but it wasn't nearly enough to stem the Keystone tide.Keystone led 40-6 at the half.Keystone's DanReed rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries and scored three first-quarter touchdowns.The Falcons added two scores in the fourth quarter on TD runs fromWalker and Brent Hindman.

Brookville 41, Union 19 — Colby Davis rushed for 121 yards, including an 88-yard touchdown, and Zach Traister returned a kickoff 103 yards for a score in the Golden Knights' opening loss.High School Golf

Butler 199, Knoch 209 — Antonio Baroffio carded a 35 to key the Tornado's 10-stroke triumph over the Knights Friday at Butler Country Club.Joe Boros led Knoch with a 39. Butler plays Tuesday against Northgate.
