Helen M. Slagle
Helen M. Slagle, 88, of Main Street, Bruin, died Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Hagantown, Perry Township, Clarion County on April 1, 1920, she was a daughter of Peter L. and Iva McIllwain Fair.
She was a longtime member of the Bruin United Methodist Church and was the last surviving member of the original group of the IXL Sunday School Class. She attended the Perryville school.
She enjoyed bowling at Petrolia and Bruin and was a former member of the Foxburg Country Club, where she enjoyed golfing.
She was the cafeteria manager at the Karns City High School for years, retiring in 1985.
She married Robert L. Slagle, who preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1964.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy A. Slagle of Bruin, Diana M. Rider and her husband, Daniel V., of Bruin, and Connie F. Maguire of Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren, Sheri Kvernen and her husband, John, of Sun Prairie, Wis., Kari Shakley and her husband, Greg, of Sunbury, Ohio, Christine Koop and her husband, Cole, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Madison and Luke Kvernen, all of Sun Prairie, Wis., Alyssa and Rachel Shakley, both of Sunbury, Ohio, and Megan Koop of Sun Prairie, Wis.; one stepgrandson, Steven R. Rider and his wife, Kathy, of Karns City; one brother, Leslie O. Fair of Monaca, Pa.; and four sisters, Agnes O'Hara of Hagantown, R.D. 1., Parker, Mona Vensel of Parker, Sara Stnard and her husband, Joseph, of Buffalo, N.Y., and Shirley Cooper and her husband, Rob, of Wilson, N.C.
<B>SLAGLE</B> — In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public viewing for Helen M. Slagle, who died Friday, July 25, 2008. A private funeral service will be held for the family on Tuesday with the Rev. Wade Berkley, pastor of the Bruin United Methodist Church, officiating.
