New Cumberland — On June 20, Butler native, Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Peter Talleri assumed command of the Defense Distribution Center in New Cumberland, the Defense Logistics Agency's lead center for distribution.
He formerly served as commanding general, 3d Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.
Talleri was commissioned in May 1979 after graduating from Clarion University, was assigned to the 1st Marine Division and served as platoon commander and supply officer for 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines.
His other assignments have included officer selection and executive officer, Recruiting Station Pittsburgh; supply company commander and officer-in-charge, 3d Supply Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan; supply analyst, Field Supply and Maintenance Analysis Office-3; fellowship, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, D.C.; operations officer and occupational field sponsor, Installation and Logistics Department, Headquarters Marine Corps; supply and logistics officer, Marine Air Control Group-Eighteen, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa; deputy assistant chief of staff, Logistics, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; commander, 2d Maintenance Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group and commander of the Combat Service Support Detachment for Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Vieques, deployed to Puerto Rico in support of Operation Eastern Access; chief, Logistics and Transformation Automation Division, Logistics Directorate, U.S Central Command; deployment, Middle East, Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.; commander, 2d Supply Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group; deployment, Iraq, for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Haiti for Operation Secure Democracy; assistant chief of staff, G-4, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command and deployment, Middle East, Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He is a graduate of the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School and Marine Corps Command and Staff College and has a master's degree in national resource strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and a master's degree in business management from the Florida Institute of Technology.
