Laughner 60th anniversary

The Laughners in 1948

Carl and Norma Laughner of Slippery Rock will celebrate 60 years of marriage with a party Sunday at the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

Laughner married the former Norma Watson July 16, 1948, at the bride's home in Slippery Rock.

They have two children, Wendy Honey of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; and James Laughner of Westport, Conn.

They also have two grandchildren.

Laughner retired from Slippery Rock University, where he taught speech and English and was the alumni director for 10 years. He served as a borough councilman and council president and served in the GEDcounseling program.

Mrs. Laughner taught speech at Slippery Rock State College and directed the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church junior choir for 30 years. She was the Slippery Rock Meals on Wheels organizer and was a driver for 35 years. In her church she sang soprano in the choir for 60 years, served in many offices for the United Methodist Women and was president of the Butler district.

The couple are both recipients of the Slippery Rock Mabel Blyth Town and Gown Award.

They enjoy educational travel and recently took an extended cruise along the coast of Norway.
