Martha A. Hawks Baker, 88, of Zelienople died Saturday at Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.

Born Oct. 14, 1919, in Connoquenessing, she was the daughter of Clarence T. and Nellie Fowler Hawks.

In 1952, a romantic relationship began with the Rev. Cletus V. Baker, the Presbyterian minister in her community. Her marriage to him Feb. 14, 1953, evolved into a "committed partnership" in ministry.

She was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Zelienople.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Dayne Mark Baker and his wife, Kathleen, of Cranberry Township; two grandchildren, Andrew and Bethany Baker; two step-granddaughters, Jennifer Petrantoni and Jessica Baier; two great-grandsons, Drake and Leland; two sisters, Bernice Eakin of Grove City and Clare Kamm of Fort Mill, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Seaman Memorial Chapel, Passavant Retirement Community, 401 S. Main St., Zelienople, with the Rev. John Hoogerbrugge officiating.
