Jack Ziman, 88, formerly of Butler died peacefully Wednesday in Baltimore, where he resided in recent years near family.

Born Aug. 15, 1919, in Butler, Jack was a son of Louis and Sarah Ziman. After graduating from Butler High School, he served in France and England during World War II. With his late wife, Rita Green Ziman, he owned and operated Sam Green Tavern in Butler for more than 30 years before his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of B'nai Abraham Congregation of Butler, where he was a regular volunteer. He particularly enjoyed Sunday family outings, bowling and volunteering at Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Surviving are his sons, Sheldon of Maryland, Barry of Virginia, Sam of Texas and Harvey Benyamin of Maryland; a brother, Bob Ziman of Illinois; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
