James D. Elliott, 54, of Santa Maria, Calif., formerly of Tarentum, died Sunday.

Born July 15, 1953, he was the son of James and Jean Pennington Elliott.

He was an engineer for United Launch Alliance, where he worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base as a civilian. He was responsible for launching various satellites and flights.

James also was known for building the first computer for the London Embassy while serving in the Air force.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Jacobson Elliott, who he married June 24, 1977; a daughter, Courtney Lynn Elliott; his parents, both of Cabot; a brother, David Elliott and his wife, Theresa of Flinton; and a sister, Jacquelynn Elliott Vidmar and her husband, Paul, of Butler.
