CONNELLSVILLE— Brett Rinker of Slippery Rock carded an 80 to win the boys 14-year-old division of the Kings Restaurants Junior Golf Tournament Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Country Club.

BEREA, Ohio — Sean Strickland, boys basketball coach at Slippery Rock High School the past five years, was named assistant women's basketball and head women's golf coach at Baldwin-Wallace College.Strickland joins a Yellow Jackets basketball program that has reached the NCAADivision IIITournament 10 times in the past 13 seasons. He takes over a golf program that finished third in the Ohio Athletic Conference last season.AHenrietta, N.Y., native, Strickland earned a master's degree in sports management from Slippery Rock University and began his coaching career at Monaca High in 1997.

EDINBORO — The Butler County Soccer Association boys U-14 traveling soccer team captured the PAWest State Open Tournament last weekend with a 5-0-1 record, including a double-overtime win over Kinzua in the final.Team members are Jake Kaufman, Trey Robinson, Brandon Wampler, Michael Connelly, Zach Michel, Stephen Rodgers, Mark Malecky, Dylan Weyand, Taylor Zanella, Taylor Troyan, Craig Hortert, Kurtis Ruffaner, Glenn Brennen, captain Jonah Kalafut, captain and MVPAdam Suter and MVPTyler Boulanger.The team was undefeated during the regular spring soccer season.The squad was coached by Mark and Anna Kalafut, Brandon Zanella and Aaron Wampler.

PITTSBURGH — Pro football Hall of Famer Dan Marino was elected as a special trustee of his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh.Dawne Hickton, CEO of titanium producer RTI International Metals, and Mercer County dentist Brian Generalovich also were elected Friday to Pitt's board. Hickton is a special trustee and Generalovich is an alumni trustee.Marino earned a bachelor's degree from Pitt in 1983 and was chosen in the first round of the NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins.
