Richard J. Gordon
Richard J. Gordon, 49, of New Wilmington died Wednesday at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born Dec. 17, 1958, in Monongahela, he was the son of the late ArchieD. Gordon and Marjorie J. Wright Gordon Neal, who survives in Englewood, Fla.
He married Jennifer Kreuz Gordon on Oct. 22, 1983, and she survives.
Rich was Carbis Walker LLP's managing partner. Throughout his 28 years with the firm, Rich was instrumental in the overall development and direction of Carbis Walker. He was responsible for the day to day management of the firm's operations and was a member of Carbis Walker's executive committee, which governs policy and procedure for the firm. Rich was also president of Carbis Walker's related companies, Total Practice Management, LLC and Walker Benefits.
He was a 1977 graduate of Knoch High School in Saxonburg and a 1981 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Rich was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he had been selected for the management of an accounting practice committee; the Healthcare Financial Management Association; and the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profit Homes for the Aging. He was the chairperson for RYLA and a member of the board for the local Rotary International organization, where he was involved in community service and fundraising activities. Rich was also an instrumental member of the RSM McGladrey Network National Managing Partner Committee.
He was a past instructor in Slippery Rock University's Core of Knowledge for Nursing Home Administration course and the Pennsylvania Association Directors of Nursing Administration's "Boot Camp for Directors in Nursing." Rich had been published as a contributing author in Aspen Publishing's Corporate Compliance Manual.
Rich served on the New Castle Public Library board, the Wilmington Area School District's Education Foundation, and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Board of Directors.
In addition to being a loving husband and dedicated father, Rich was a member of the New Castle Rotary and the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church, where he was on the Board of Trustees. He enjoyed golfing, competing in triathlons and running marathons.
In addition to his wife and mother, Rich is survived by three daughters, Jessica Gordon of Cleveland, Ohio, Megan Gordon and Katie Gordon, both of New Wilmington; two brothers, Dale E. Gordon of Tampa, Fla., and Fred D. Gordon of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and one sister, Karen Gordon of Palm Springs, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his father.
