BUTLER TWP— The Butler Township 14 Federated Pony League baseball team is off to a 12-0 start this season, including five shutouts.
Matt Baranchak, Alex Ziegler and Dalton Koebler have pitched shutouts and the team has outscored its opposition 132-34.
Many of the team's players were members of the Butler Township squad that reached Little League World Series regional play two years ago.
NEW CASTLE— Butler golfers Jon Pratkanis and John Aubrey Sr. carded a 2-under-par 70 to finish third in the Tri-State Open golf tournament Monday at New Castle Country Club.Pratkanis is an amateur golfer while Aubrey is the pro out of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred. Bob Ford of Oakmont Country Club won the event with a 5-under 67.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Meridian resident Jordan Foley accepted a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy and will play football there.Foley attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland last year, played football and earned a 4.0 grade point average. He plans to major in medicine at the Naval Academy and reports July 2.
