One of the films opening Friday at the Rangos Omnimax Theater at the Carnegie Science Center is "Wild Ocean," a revealing look at how a sardine migration affects not only sea life but also the economy and culture of coastal communities.

PITTSBURGH — Rangos Omnimax Theater at the Carnegie Science Center, One Allegheny Ave. next to Heinz Field on the North Side, features "Wild Ocean" and "The Alps" starting Friday.

From the producers of Everest, "The Alps" follows the true life story of mountaineer and journalist John Harlin III, who sets out on a personal journey to climb the deadly North Face of the Eiger, the stormiest, steepest peak in all of Europe — 40 years after the same mountain claimed the life of his father, climbing legend John Harlin II.

Also opening Friday is "Wild Ocean," video of the unbelievable feeding frenzy that takes place in the oceans of South Africa as billions of sardines migrate up the KwaZulu-Natal Coast. "Wild Ocean" captures spectacular breaching whales, feeding sharks, diving gannets, and massive bait balls inside and up close on the giant screen.

The film reveals an epic underwater struggle for survival and demonstrates the economic and cultural impact the migration has on the coastal communities

Also still showing in the Rangos Omnimax Theater is "Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey," an exhibition of percussion from around the world, running through October.

Admission cost varies, but ranges from $6 to $8 for a single film. Combination tickets for more than one film or general admission additionally are available.
