BUTLER TWP— Butler County Community College freshman golfer Mike Cuscino earned a berth in the NJCAA national tournament June 1 to 6 in Chautauqua, N.Y.

A Shenango High graduate, Cuscino shot an 81-80-161 to finish fourth out of 30 golfers at the Region XX Championships recently at the Latrobe Elks golf course.

He is the first BC3 golfer to reach nationals since Knoch graduate Steve Rodgers did so about 10 years ago.

KARNS CITY — The District 9 Class AA second-round baseball playoff game between Karns City and Redbank Valley scheduled for Thursday was postponed.The Gremlins (10-6) will take on the Bulldogs (14-0) at 4:30 p.m. today at Redbank Valley.

PITTSBURGH — Seneca Valley senior pitcher Cory Mazzoni was named WPIALClass AAAA Player of the Year by the WPIALBaseball Coaches Association.Mazzoni was 7-1 this season, sporting a 1.15 earned run average and striking out 80 batters in 48 2/3 innings. He also batted .302 with a home run and seven RBI.Mazzoni signed with North Carolina State before his senior season.
