Jewell

James W. Jewell, 79, of Seneca Drive died Sunday at the Shelbourne Assisted Living Home.

Born July 31, 1928, in Middletown, Ohio, he was a son of Elmer and Ethel Upton Jewell.

Mr. Jewell worked for the Armco Steel Corp. in Middletown for three years and then was transferred to Armco-Butler Works. Jim worked for Armco for a total of 41 years, where he spent 20 years in the thin gauge department and retired in 1989 from the machine shop.

He was an expert bookkeeper and was a past treasurer of the Butler Armco Independent Union. He also was a member and past treasurer of the Greenwood Village Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Jewell was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Meridian and the Knights of Columbus, Butler Council 866.

He belonged to the Meridian Boosters and coached Meridian youth baseball teams. He enjoyed bowling and was a former member of the Armco Bowling League.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Walters Jewell, whom he married in 1948; a son, Daniel A. Jewell and his companion, Cheryl Atterberry, of Butler; two daughters, Kathie Jewell of Berea, Ohio, and Margee Newhall and her husband, Steve, of Livingston, Mont.; a sister, Mrs. Dottie Reed of Middletown; five grandchildren, Shawna, Amber and Danae Jewell and Justin and David Lobaugh; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Emmy and Ashley Jewell; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Timothy Jewell, and a sister, Audrey Jewell, preceded him in death.

<B>JEWELL </B>—<B> </B>Friends of James W. Jewell, who died Sunday, April 13, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. James Murphy, his church pastor, will officiate.
