Mrs. Christine (Yurko) Reed, 83, of Buffalo Township, passed away peacefully at 3:50 p.m. Thursday at Chicora Medical Center.

Born in Braddock, Pa., on Dec. 20, 1924, she was the daughter of John and Barbara (Fabian) Yurko. She was the widow of L. Anderson Reed, who died in 1979.

She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Freeport.

She graduated from Mars High School in 1942 and was employed as a cafeteria manager for the Freeport School District for 24 years. She had overseen all the school's cafeterias, retiring in 1987.

She volunteered at Allegheny Valley Hospital for many years as a Red Coat and as a Eucharistic minister. She was involved with the start up of the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Leechburg. She served on the finance committee at St. Mary's and enjoyed stain glass work, gardening and traveling.

Mrs. Reed is survived by three sons, David A. (Tej) Reed of Landisburg, Pa., Dennis J. Reed and his fiance, Jill Formelius, of Buffalo Township and Robert A. (Alanna) Reed of Karns City; a daughter, Barbara Ann (Dan) Reed-Martin of Baltimore; and a daughter-in-law, Tracy Reed of South Buffalo Township. She also is survived by her three grandchildren, Jesse, Ananda and Alexis Reed.

She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Albert, John, Joseph and Andrew Reed, as well as a sister, Mary Agnes Yurko.

A Parish Wake Service will be held at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Sunday. A parting prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Freeport at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John T. Euker officiating.
