I guess Matt Groenig displayed it best in an old Simpson's episode. Lisa stole the teacher's edition with the answers in it and the entire school shut down. LOL!

I got where I am today because of my hard work, my parents' example - and Catholic schools. Not because of public school teachers. A child learns the most from their environment. Proof can be found from other students that I graduated with. We all had the same post elementary education. If teachers had anything to do with it, they would all be engineers, there would be no welfare state and no one in prison.

People determine their own destinies. If they choose to learn, they will, substandard teacher or not - Albert Einstein was a very poor student in school.

Children of today are not taught the most valuable lesson of all - pride in themselves. This has to come from parents, and shamefully, the parents are more interested in their own desires than that of the child.

Jim made an excellent point - why should teachers make more than police officers? Which are more valuable?
