Having been married for fifty years to a former Canadian who has considerable family still living in various parts of Canada I've been able to make some comparisons. The situation there has its problems also, generally the shortage of family practitioners and clinics. Overwhelmed emergency rooms are the norm. There also are not enough MRIs available. Waiting for surgery is a common accusation made by opponents of their system. True you may wait for elective surgery but not for emergency. A nephew that had a heart attack received a quadruple bypass immediately. A brother-in-law with emphysema receives excellent care as did one with diabetes that lost both feet before passing away. The only real point I wish to make here is that several years ago I conducted my on poll on a visit to Toronto and St. John's. I asked every relative and every friend if they would change their system for ours. Not a single one said they would. I'm sure the good doctor will not wait to contradict my claims.
