Alvino

Dominic J. Alvino, 85, of Freeport died peacefully at 6:02 a.m. Wednesday at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison Township.

Born in Freeport, Nov. 1, 1922, he was the son of Ilario and Rose Gentile Alvino.

He was a member of the St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Freeport and was an usher for many years.

Mr. Alvino served with the Army in the Pacific during World War II.

He worked in the bottling house at the Schenley Distillery in Schenley for more than 40 years.

He was a member of the Freeport Eagles and the Freeport VFW and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also had a great passion for vegetable gardening.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Josephine Logero Alvino; a son, James P. (Marsha (Spahn) Alvino of Jefferson Township; a daughter, Kathleen J. Gross and her fiancée, John Conte, of Brockton, Mass.; two grandsons, Kevin (Lynn) Gross of Massachusetts and Jeffery Gross of Colorado; two great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; a brother, John Alvino of Vandergrift; and a sister Susan (Dominic) Flocker of New Kensington.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Frank Alvino; and four sisters, Carmela Tornese, Millie Triglia, Mary Dininger and Margaret Gooch.

<B>ALVINO</B> — Friends of Dominic J. Alvino, who died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>REDMOND FUNERAL HOME</B>, 524 High St. Freeport. A parish wake service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Euker officiating. A parting prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Freeport. The Rev. John Euker will officiate.
