Richard A. Rodgers Sr., 81, of Butler died Friday afternoon at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 14, 1926, in Butler, he was the son of Albert J. Sr. and Susan Porach Rodgers.

He was a turn foreman in the Silicon Department for the Armco Steel Corp. in Butler, retiring in April 1985 after 35 years.

Mr. Rodgers was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the V.F.W. Post 249 in Butler, and a lifetime member of the D.A.V. He was active for years in the Knights of Columbus 866, especially as a cook for its fish fries, and was a past Faithful Navigator for St. Fidelis General Assembly 4th Degree. He was an active member of the Order of Alhambra, Jean Caravan 131, where he was also past president, and was part of the Alhambra Clown group. He had been a volunteer for the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center for years.

He had lived part of each year in Aurora, Colo., from 1985 until 2004. Mr. Rodgers enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards and games.A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army.Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Eleanor R. DiTullio Rodgers, who he married June 29, 1947; three sons, Richard (Mary Ellen) A. Rodgers, Jr. of Butler, David (Martha) Rodgers of Colorado and Carmen (MaryAnn) Rodgers of Virginia; one daughter, Mary (Richard Jr.) Moore, of Colorado; 12 grandchildren, Richie and Kelly, children of Rich and Mary Ellen, Katherine, daughter of David and Martha, Daniel, Dorothy (David), David (Elizabeth), Jeremy, Joshua and Gabrielle, children of Carmen and MaryAnn, Dylon, Brandi and Jamie, children of Mary and Dick; two great grandchildren, Willow and Christopher, grandchildren of Carmen and MaryAnn; one brother, Albert Rodgers, Jr. of Carmel, Ind.; two sisters, Patricia Luchkiw of Pennsylvania and Susan Meeker of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

<B>RODGERS</B> — Friends of Richard A. Rodgers, Sr., who died Friday, April 4, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home,</B> 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.Members of the Knights of Columbus 866 will meet at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home to recite the Rosary.Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Chapter of Greater Pittsburgh, (National Parkinson Foundation) 6507 Wilkins Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
