SV baseball wins section, Butler in playoffs

Seneca Valley clinched another outright section baseball title. Butler clinched a previously elusive playoff berth.

In Section 1-AAAA developments Monday, the Raiders improved to 16-2 overall, 10-1 in section play, with a 3-1 victory over Pine-Richland. Cory Mazzoni tossed a one-hitter and struck out 11.

Had Seneca Valley lost that game, Butler (12-5, 8-3) could have tied the Raiders for the section crown with a victory over them Wednesday at Highfield Park. But the Golden Tornado will gladly accept the consolation prize.

Butler won at North Hills, 13-0, in a Monday night game that clinched the Tornado's first WPIALplayoff berth in more than a decade.

In other action:

• Brett Green tallied three RBI and Cody Williams doubled and tripled as Karns City defeated North Clarion, 14-3 in five innings.

The victory improves the Gremlins to 8-5 overall (7-3 in the KSAC).

KC will host Redbank Valley on Wednesday.

• Dakota Campbell struck out 10 batters in a 6-1, complete-game victory over Keystone.

• Randy Risch tossed no-hit ball for 62/3 innings while Ryan Devine and Casey Shay each homered as Grove City won 9-2 over Oil City.
