This is to announce a meeting of the Butler Linux Options Group (BLOG;unless a better name up) on the 18th of May between 6-8:30 Pm at the Kairos coffee and tea shop 249 New Castle Rd. Butler, Pa 16001 (next door to Bill's Beer Barn. A map-link will be provided on the upcoming website http://www.butlerblog.org) .

This will be the first of what we hope will be a once-a-month regularly scheduled meetings.

Though the focus of the group will be on the Linux operating system and particularly on Ubuntu, any user at any level, from "just learned how to turn it on!", to "I know all", of any operating system (e.g. Microsoft Windows or Apple OS) is not only welcome, but truly encouraged to come. We wish to present to the local community the fact that there is a viable, realistic, virtually virus free and certainly cost free alternative to what is probably the most blatant monopoly of all time that comes on most computers.

You can see firsthand, an operating system so rich in features, that in itself is contained an almost limitless source of entertainment, let alone what you can do with it such as surfing the net, instant messaging, conferencing, gaming etc., in a much safer and reliable environment than any other operating system! ˆ This isn't to say that Windows or doesn't have something to offer, just that one does have options other than what 'comes with the box" and what good things they do have, can usually be used within Linux.

The code of conduct is to be as relaxed and simple for all as can be (please wear clothes!) Some exclusions are: though we live in volatile times that might seem to offer opportunity for such, this group will not be a forum for political or religious

diatribes. Nor will offensive behavior that exceeds the decorum of how one should act in an environment of pluralistic thinking be accepted; this includes swearing, drunkenness, caustic invective and the like. Even if we may do it at home, we must

respect that all present have a right to be there without feeling threatened, uncomfortable, or compromised. The esprit de corps of the group has to be consideration of the feelings of others. We will be meeting to discuss the technology alone and not how it is involved in application to politics, religion et

al, in spite of the fact that it surely is. Issues such as those can be addressed or pursued in other venues.

Some topics that will be covered are:

Installation of Linux, Running Windows applications on Linux, The "resurrection from the dead" (that is, making an old computer run like new with Ubuntu) creating Websites, Learning how to W.I.N.E. without whining and on and on.
