The Strand Theater Initiative will host the fifth annual North Pittsburgh Musical Showcase at 8 p.m. Saturday at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, Jackson Township. This musical invitational will feature 11 schools from the greater Pittsburgh region, including Portersville Christian Academy, performing segments from their spring productions in a non-competitive exhibition. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for senior citizens and students. Proceeds will benefit The Strand Theater Initiative, which is renovating the landmark Strand Theater in Zelienople as a performing arts, education and community outreach center. Comtra Theatre, Route 19 in Cranberry Township, is staging "A Bad Year for Tomatoes" through Saturday. The comedy is about the misfortunes of a famous TV actress who wants to get away from it all in a small New England town. "Caught in the Net" will run from May 9 to 24. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is $12 for plays and $15 for musicals. Box office opens at 6:45 p.m. the day of the show. Call 724-773-9896.
