Rock falls in PSAC tourney
Millersville scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday to hand the Slippery Rock University baseball team a 5-3 defeat in the opening game of the PSAC Championships in Lancaster.
SRU (25-22) scored two runs in the first inning when Billy Herman (Grove City High) had a two-out, two-run single and added another in the second on an RBI groundout by Rich Michalek.
The score held up until Millersville (23-24) plated five runs, including a three-run homer by Arroyo.
SRU had the tying run at second base in the ninth inning when Michalek had a one-out single and Matt Adams a two-out double, but M.J. Parsons lined out to second base for the final out.
The Rock plays West Chester at noon today.
In the opening round of the NCAA Division II East Regional tournament, SRU (20-3) will face Holy Family University (15-5) May 8 or 9 at Bryant College in Rhode Island.The winner will face the Bryant (23-2)-Philadelphia University (17-6) winner May 9-10.The tournament berth is the second straight earned by The Rock.
