ERIE — The bids are coming in from roller coaster enthusiasts vying for 24 seats on the debut ride of Erie County's newest roller coaster.

The Ravine Flyer II will open for business May 17 at Waldameer Park & Water World.

So far, people have submitted Internet bids ranging from $80 to $500 for the coaster's first 90-second thrill ride.

The bids will benefit the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International.

The park will also sell $4.50 ride tickets during the coaster's debut weekend. All but $1 of each ticket will also go to the charity.

The original Ravine Flyer was torn down after a rider fell off and was killed more than 60 years ago.

SOMERSET — A 180-pound black bear will adapt to his new Somerset County abode, even if he sorely misses his old home an hour away.In December, the bear was first relocated from Fayette County to Laurel Ridge State Park in Somerset after he was caught raiding beehives and feasting on horse feed. But when he arose from his winter snooze, the bear trekked the 50 or so miles back to Fayette County and began emptying bird feeders and rummaging through garbage. On Monday, commission officials who had trapped the bear with the help of a glazed ham, again released him in the state park, where they insist he will remain.
