7:11 p.m. Sunday — James C. Bender Jr., 52, was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, 40-year-old Barbara Hazlett, during a domestic dispute at the couple's East Jefferson Street home.Hazlett told police that Bender punched her in the head and tried to stab her with a screwdriver. Officers found the defendant in the parking lot of a nearby business.Bender also was found with a screwdriver filed down into an ice pick, according to a police report, and a metal crack pipe. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia and placed in the ButlerCounty Prison on $20,000 bail.4:15 p.m. Friday — Marissa Mallory Watson, 19, of Lyndora is accused of hitting her mother with a plastic chair during a domestic dispute at a West Penn Street home.A police report said the chair hit Deborah Ann Fields, 38, of Lyndora in the face, causing her mouth to bleed. Watson is charged with simple assault.
1:10 a.m. today — Richard Hughes, 21, of Parker is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile after breaking into a South Jackson Avenue home in Parker, Armstrong County.Police said Hughes broke into the home by tearing plastic off a door. The defendant allegedly went to the victim's bedroom and inappropriately touched the juvenile, who police did not identify.Hughes left the home and returned to his house, where police arrested him. He is charged with burglary, indecent assault and trespass.12:11 a.m. Sunday — Isaac Morrison, 19, of Slippery Rock was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was found sleeping in a vehicle parked at a gas pump at the Kwik Fill store on Route 422 in Prospect.Police said Morrison, who was found with suspected marijuana, also faces charges for possession of a small amount of marijuana and underage drinking.Sunday — Police reported that some time since March, an unknown thief stole copper wires and piping from a vacated home, garage and barn on Route 8 in Mercer Township.7:50 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by a 17-year-old Saxonburg girl crashed on Saxonburg Road in Jefferson Township. Police did not identify the girl, who was cited for driving too fast for conditions.6:10 p.m. Saturday — A42-year-old Chicora man suffered minor injuries when he was accidentally shot while searching for his dog in woods off Slater Lane in Oakland Township.Police said a 12-year-old Chicora area boy, accompanied by his stepfather, was target shooting when a bullet ricocheted and struck Michael J. McCloskey in the back of the hand.4:15 p.m. Saturday — A 16-year-old Renfrew boy is accused of hitting 39-year-old Tim Martin of Renfrew with a board during an argument at a John School Road home in Forward Township. Police filed a simple assault charge in Butler County juvenile court against the boy, who was not identified.1:17 p.m. Saturday — Burt P. Pisor, 45, of Rimersburg was arrested for suspicion of DUI after his pickup truck crossed the center line and collided with a sport utility vehicle on Foxburg Road in Hovey Township, Armstrong County.Police said Pisor did not stop after the crash but was later stopped with the help of Parker City volunteer firefighters and Richard J. Farrington, 36, of Parker, who was driving the SUV.Saturday — Abank bag with a small amount of cash and 16 checks were stolen in a burglary between 8 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday at Smardt Equipment in Prospect.11:20 a.m. Thursday — An unknown thief walked into the Pilot convenience store in Muddy Creek Township and walked away with a toolbox filled with tools.
2:27 a.m. Saturday — Amanda M. Price, 27, of Grove City was seriously injured when she was thrown out of the car she was driving when the vehicle hit a set of utility pole guide wires on Route 62 in Jackson Township. Price was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh; her condition was not known this morning.7:25 p.m. Friday — Adam Miller, 16, of Volant suffered minor injuries when his dirt bike collided with a car on Route 19 in Springfield Township. The youth, who was treated at Grove City Medical Center, was not wearing a helmet. Robert Clark, 42, of Volant was driving the car.Wednesday — An unknown burglar between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday stole a black, 1998 GMCSonoma from the detached garage at the Leesburg Station Road home of Gerald Taylor in Springfield Township.April 18 — The burglary of two nearby Grove City area businesses could be related but the cases remain unsolved.About $100 in equipment was taken from the Common Ground Restaurant at 1416 Sandy Lake Road in one burglary between April 13 and 18. Apolice report did not say if anything was stolen from the Graceland Farm Market at 1400 Sandy Lake Road in the other burglary April 17 or 18.April 13 — Allen Frye of Frederick, Md., reported that his vehicle was stolen April 12 or 13 from the Prime Outlets in Springfield Township. A police report did not identify the vehicle.
