James Francis Detrie

Detrie

James Francis Detrie, 85, formerly of Concord Township, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday at Chicora Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born in Chicora, April 26, 1922, he was a son of Levi F. and May Eminger Detrie.

He was a Protestant.

Mr. Detrie had attended Chicora Elementary School.

During World War II, he served with the Army infantry from 1942 until 1945, was wounded in action three times and received the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Clusters. Appointed to the rank of staff sergeant, he fought in North Africa, Sicily, England and France and was discharged June 16, 1945, at Camp Beale, Calif.

He married the former Eunice L. Knight July 25, 1946, in Chicora. She survives along with a sister-in-law, Ernestine Detrie of Fairview; two nephews, John Detrie and his wife, Heidi, of Fairview and Lee Detrie and his wife, Shannon, of High Point, N.C.; a brother, Jacob Detrie and his wife, Carol, of Butler; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

<B>DETRIE </B>— Friends of James Francis Detrie, who died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B>, Petrolia. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pat Sawaya, chaplain of Chicora Medical Center, officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Concord Township.Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of Chicora American Legion and the VFW.
