KARNS CITY — Karns City's Cameron Turner and Brett Green have had memorable senior seasons in football.

They were key reasons the Gremlins won the District 9 championship and played in the PIAAplayoffs against eventual state champion Jeannette.

The duo will play one last time in Australia as part of the annual Down Under Bowl July 3 through 13.

Now in its 20th season, the event brings American high school football to the Gold Coast.

"I think what happens is whoever runs these must look at an all-star list," said Karns City coach Ed Conto. "Cameron told me he made it and got this list."

The Gremlins have had several players take part in the past several seasons. Turner and Green have decided to continue that tradition.

"They just sent me an e-mail and asked if I was interested," said Turner. "I said yeah and they sent me the info. I could elect one person to come with me and I chose Brett.

"I knew he loved to play football and he's one of our better players," Turner added.

"It doesn't matter if I play," Green said. "That would be nice, but it's a different culture. That should be amazing.

"(Gremlins assistant coach) Ian Ferguson went and he said it was a lot of fun, a great experience and a great opportunity,"Green added.

Conto said he's always happy to see his players take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the event."It's nice for the kids to find something new for them and play a sport you like," said Conto, "It's a good situation."And a pricey one, as well. Participating in the Down Under Bowl costs each player about $4,000."We'll try to do fundraisers," said Turner, a Lock Haven University recruit. "I'm not sure what yet. We'll ask for donations, too.""We're thinking maybe we can involve the community," said Green. "We can save pop cans and we can get a lot if the whole town gets involved."Turner, a three-time Butler Eagle Sweet 16 pick, is coming off a first-team all-state season in which he had 66 tackles, including 14 sacks, and a pair of interceptions at defensive end, a position he most likely will play in Australia.He also made the conference all-star team as a tight end.Green was another Sweet 16 pick at linebacker and was an all-KSAC star there as well as running back.The duo will be part of a Pennsylvania-Ohio team that usually is made up of 35 players. Teams are divided into brackets of four teams, which play two games apiece.A win in the first game results in a championship game, a loss puts the team into a consolation final.Of course, it's been a while since the players played their final down against the Jayhawks at Clarion University, but Green doesn't see that as a problem."I'm sure it will be different,"said Green. "I'm sure I'll be rusty, but so will everyone else so it will equal out."
