5:49 p.m. Monday — Police caught a suspected burglar hiding in a basement crawl space at a Morton Avenue home.James C. Best Jr., 35, of Butler was arrested after officers got a call for a burglary in progress. Police said that after Best climbed out of the crawl space officers searched the area and found several bags of suspected heroin.Best was arraigned on charges of burglary, possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief, and placed in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond.

9:08 p.m. Tuesday — Vincent Fedorski, 47, of Butler faces drug-related charges following a traffic stop at Route 8 South and Pepperland Boulevard.Policesaid Fedorski, who was also wanted on a warrant, was found with suspected crack cocaine. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.Tuesday — Police cited four people for shoplifting at the Butler Commons Wal-Mart in separate incidents between 4:54 and 8:55 p.m.Among those charged with retail theft was Nancy Denney, 55, of Parker, who is accused of trying to leave the store with 86 items that she failed to scan at the self-checkout register.Denney also was cited for trespass. The trespass charge, police said, stems from a 1999 incident after which she was barred from the store.Also cited for retail theft were Colleen Lips, 19, of Pittsburgh; Shateika Ridley, 20, of Slippery Rock; and Michael J. McPherson, 20, of Prospect.

Tuesday — Several bottles of liquor and a case of beer were stolen between 10:30 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday after breaking into Doc's Tavern on Route 68 in Toby Township.5 p.m. Monday — Someone also stole a JVC compact disc player/radio and a Sony amplifier from a sport utility vehicle at Karl's Paint on Route 68 in Toby Township. Rolando Cruz Torres of Sligo owns the property stolen between April 14 and Monday.

4:49 p.m. Tuesday — David Coester, 18, of Sarver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of a small amount of marijuana following a traffic stop on Route 28 near Horseshoe Drive in South Buffalo Township.11:55 a.m. April 15 — A pickup truck driven by Charlotte M. Shaeffer, 42, of Manorville crashed into the concrete and dirt medians along Graff Bridge on Route 422 in North Buffalo Township. Police said Shaeffer was cited for a lane violation.

12:30 p.m. Wednesday — Louis Saulle, 30, of Cabot is accused of trying to steal $105 in merchandise from the Echo Unlimited store on Leesburg- Grove City Road in Springfield Township. Police cited Saulle for retail theft.
