IMPERIAL — Pittsburgh International Airport will introduce new security lanes for passengers this week.

The initiative by the Transportation Security Administration is designed to reduce the amount of time it takes to get through security checkpoints.

Officials say the "self-select lanes" will allow travelers to choose a lane based on their travel experience.

Frequent travelers may go through a so-called "expert" lane. Those needing more time may choose a lane designated for "family" or "special assistance."

Officials say the program has increased the flow of passengers through security checkpoints and improved customer satisfaction. The new lanes will be officially opened today.
