Gretchen Helene King, 85, of Center Township died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

Born May 24, 1922, in Butler, she was the daughter of Ross Everett Curry and Carrie Matilda Painter.

She was a homemaker. She formerly had worked at the bus station, which was at the site of the tier parking garage.

Mrs. King was a member of North Main Street Church of God and the Keenagers Sunday school class at her church. She also was a member of United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary and BUCO Travel Trailer Club. She formerly volunteered at Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

She enjoyed traveling to Florida and riding her scooter, and she loved canning fruit, vegetables and meats for 55 years.

Surviving are her husband, William John King, who she married Sept. 18, 1945; a son and his wife, William Rodney and Belinda King of Slippery Rock; a daughter and her husband, Brenda Lee and James E. Grosclaude of Butler; three grandsons, Randy Grosclaude of Butler and Colby and Trevor King, both of Slippery Rock; a sister, Mrs. Jean Worrell of Ellwood City; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by a brother.

<B>KING</B> — Friends of Gretchen Helene King, who died Thursday, March 20, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Hall of North Main Street Church of God officiating.
