Vance Wesley Burtner
Vance Wesley Burtner, 83, of Rockdale Road died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday at his home.
Born June 24, 1924, in Butler, he was the son of Forest H. and Lena Giles Burtner.
He was a self-employed farmer. He also was a Country Bell director, an Agway director and a Jefferson Township supervisor for 12 years.
Mr. Burtner was a member of the Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen.
He enjoyed church fellowship, farming, gardening and flowers, growing giant pumpkins, writing poetry and reading.
Surviving are his wife, Esther E. Hogg Burtner, who he married Jan. 2, 1948; four sons and their wives, David V. Burtner and Durfee, Darell E. Burtner and Paula, Duane W. Burtner and Mary, and Darwin M. Burtner and Kathy; 11 grandchildren, Brett Burtner and his wife, Michelle, Noah, Levi, Ellie, Ashley and Alicia Burtner, Ben Burtner and his wife, Tracy, Seth Burtner and his wife, Lindsey, and Travis, Todd and Tiffany Burtner; eight brothers, Arthur Burtner of Butler, Giles Burtner of Webster, N.Y., Keith Burtner of Butler, Roger Burtner of Brady, Texas, Vernon Burtner of Marionville, Mo., Wendall Burtner of Rochester, N.Y., Russell Burtner of Washington, N.C., and Harry Burtner of Butler; four sisters, Joyce Trumbauer of Fort Wayne, Ind., Jessie Skinner of Warren, Ind., Mary Francis Boggs of Cabot and Marilyn Glasgow of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
<B>BURTNER</B> — Friends of Vance Wesley Burtner, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Thorn Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kurt Knobel and the Rev. Rich Fagen officiating.
