I think some are missing the point. I think it all started that a parent was not notified that there child was not completing homework.

Whether or not the parent is following there child around is not the issue. There is plenty of possibilities that the parent might not know about homework not being done or the child is falling behind.

But there is only one possibility for the teacher and that is contacting parent of problems (this should not be a note sent home, should be a phone call.) I do believe this is part of the teachers responsibility. It is not only the teacher who gives the homework and teaches the lessons, it is also to make sure that if there is an issue they get the child help. The type of help is probably determined by parent or administration. I have seen to many times teachers feel as long as they show up and open a book that is there job. There is a reason it is a salary position, and professional. Our duties just dont stop from 8-5. They go all night sometimes.
