The Rev. Kamal J. Hanna, 84, of Cabot died Monday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born Aug. 3, 1923, in Galilee, he was the son of Joseph and Helene Hanna.

He attended the Lutheran Scheller School in Jerusalem, Goshen College in Indiana, Wartburg College in Iowa and the University of Michigan and earned a master's in economics. He graduated from the Lutheran Seminary in Maywood (Chicago), Ill., with a Master of Divinity degree and was ordained in 1959.

Rev. Hanna served as a civilian for the British Royal Navy in Israel during World War II.

As the assistant to the director of the Lutheran World Federation in the Middle East, he administered relief, educational and health institutions among Palestinian refugees in Jerusalem.

He established a mission congregation at Bethany Lutheran Church in Frazier, Mich., and served from 1959 to 1962. He was pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church in Robinson and St. John's Lutheran Church in New Florence, Westmoreland County, from 1962 to 1966. He served as pastor of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saxonburg from 1967 until his retirement in 1986. He then served as pastor emeritus and supplied churches in the area after his retirement.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Jamieson Hanna, whom he married Sept. 5, 1959; two sons, Mark J. Hanna, D.O. (Grace and her family) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Philip (Susan) M. Hanna of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Lisa Kay Hanna of Williston, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Jennifer, Shawn, Matthew, Brian, Scott and Zachary.

<B>HANNA</B> — Friends of the Rev. Kamal J. Hanna, who died Monday, March 10, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Saxonburg.
