The Rev. Virgil O. Wittenberg, 73, formerly of Gibsonia, died Wednesday at Grant Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

Virgil graduated from Capital University and Trinity Lutheran Seminary, both in Columbus.

Virgil served as the pastor of several congregations including Trinity Evangelical Lutheran in Gibsonia and St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran in Butler. Virgil also served as vice president of the Eastern District of the ALC.

Virgil is survived by Janet, his loving wife of 49 years; daughter, Julie Wittenberg; son, Paul and his wife Pam; and grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah.
