Mazzoni, Raiders shut out North Hills

Cory Mazzoni struck out 14 batters and did not issue a walk as the Seneca Valley baseball team blanked North Hills 8-0 Monday.

Mazzoni, who also belted a home run, limited the Indians to three hits. Tyler Bream also homered and Andrew Fornadel drove in four runs.

In other games:

• Joe King had a single, a double and a home run as Karns City came away with a 16-3, five-inning victory over Moniteau.

• Drew Glavin homered and Andrew Rush smacked a bases-clearing double to power Mars over Ambridge 13-7.

• A.J. Ethriedge was the winning pitcher and drove home four runs as Union opened its season with a 12-7 triumph over A-C Valley.

• Brandon Wissinger and Stush Antoszyk had two hits apiece, but Knoch fell to host New Castle 7-2.

• Garrett Molloy homered for Grove City, but Sharon used a 10-run seventh inning to pull away in a 15-8 decision.

In Saturday's Tri-State Invitational at West Mifflin High School, Butler's Skye Sankey placed second in the girls pole vault with a leap of 10 feet, while teammates Casie Cygan was seventh in the long jump (15-1½) and Olivia Bresnahan was eighth in the high jump (4-9).
