Challenger wanted debate
The Butler Eagle should not create confusion by way of its articles. The March 26 article headlined "Metcalfe, Redding won't debate at Friday forum" led people to believe that this was a mutual decision to not debate. It was quite the opposite.
The headline of the article should have read, "Metcalfe refuses to participate in BC3 debate; Redding accepts."
Robin Redding wanted the opportunity to debate the incumbent and agreed to the debate at Butler County Community College. The incumbent's campaign manager indicated that the reason state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe wouldn't participate was that they didn't have enough time to plan for it.
The fact is that they knew about it far in advance, at least as far as did Redding.
If the incumbent believed this was important, he would have been there, no matter how much or little notice was given. Redding had to rearrange her schedule for this debate, because she believes in the importance of defining her viewpoints and providing people with enough facts to make an informed choice.
Articles in the paper headlined in the way the March 26 article was headlined can mislead people. Robin Redding wanted this debate; the incumbent did not.
The voters need to have the facts in order to make good decisions. Robin Redding wanted to provide them with those facts.
Robin Redding has made herself available for questions from reporters looking for information from her. It is disappointing that she was not contacted in this case.

Americans want truth
Hillary Clinton recently had to answer for a comment about being fired upon while in Bosnia during the Clinton administration, using it as part of her qualifications for being ready on day one as president. I would call it Pinochio Syndrome; however, she calls it misspeaking or being taken out of context.
I know what it is like to be shot at; you do not forget it. Politicians seem to think that telling an outright lie can be smoothed over with the term "taken out of context."
We have heard that term used by the current administration over and over again when it was caught trying to get out of statements that were made that were later found to be false.
People want change in this country, and it seems as if Hillary Clinton has picked up some of this administration's bad habits and will go to extraordinary lengths to do whatever it takes to get the Democratic nomination.
Americans want to be told the truth, which would be a breath of fresh air for a change.
This country needs a president who is willing to tell us the truth, no matter how much we agree with it. And, it is time to elect someone who does not shroud the presidency in secrecy and lies, or with claims of being "taken out of context."
If we cannot believe Hillary now, what will her presidency be like?
