Mueller claims indoor crown

Brad Mueller is five-for-five.

The Mars graduate and Slippery Rock University graduate student won a national title Saturday at the NCAA Divisiion II Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Minnesota State University.

Mueller ran the 60-meters in 6.65 seconds, breaking the school record for the fifth time in as many tries. He had broken it for the fourth time during preliminaries Friday, when he ran a 6.71.

Rodney Coley of Albany State finished second in the 60-meter event with a 6.68.

Other Rock athletes fared well at the national meet. Jennifer Hansen finished third in the women's pole vault with a vault of 12 feet, 9.5 inches.

Whitney Hendershot, a freshman, placed fifth in the women's high jump with a leap of five feet, seven inches.

Pat Reagan ran the men's 5,000 meters in 14 minutes, 40.58 seconds, good enough for ninth place.

Freeport graduate Lacey Cochran did not place in the women's 400 meters.

Baseball

The Rock ended its spring trip to Florida with a 7-3 triumph Saturday over Post University.

Vince Lloyd was the third of four SRU pitchers and got the win, allowing two runs and striking out two in three innings.

Rich Mihalek paced a 15-hit attack by producing a triple, three singles and two RBI. Grove City High School graduate Billy Herman added three hits and one RBI while Scott Bender had a triple, single and two RBI.

SRU (8-5) has won three straight games and plays at Ohio Valley University (W.Va.)on Tuesday.

The Rock's home opener is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday against Wheeling Jesuit at Critchfield Park.
