The Penn State Cooperative Extension announces the 2008 Northwest Regional Ag/Dairy Day will be held March 20 at Allegheny College in Meadville.
Speakers will include:
• Joel Hunter, Extension educator, and Sjoerd Duiker, associate professor of soil management on "Tales from South America — No Till Success"
• Glen Cauffman, manager of farms and facilities for Penn State University, on "Running Biodiesel in My Farm Equipment"
• Brian Perkins, dairy management consultant, on "What's All the Fuss about Distillers Grains" and "Measuring Feed Costs and Feed Efficiency"
• Doug Beegle, professor of agronomy, on "Managing Soil Fertility Economically.
The event is being held in Shafer Auditorium in the Henderson Campus Center. Tickets are $3 per person and are available from the Extension office or participating dealers. Tickets or reservations are required and the cost includes lunch.

The Dairy Cow Lameness and Foot Trimming Clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 11 at the Leroy Bergbigler family dairy.The speaker will be Dr. Ernest Hovingh of Penn State's Department of Veterinary Science.Topics include the cost of lameness to the farm; anatomy of the foot and how lameness develops; diagnosing and keeping track of lameness; potential management factors; and properly blocking and trimming a foot.The Bergbigler dairy is located east of Butler off Route 422 on Game Reserve Road. Registration is $20 per person and is required by March 5 to ensure an accurate count for lunch.
