Grove City's Caleb Kolb and Nick Miller both came away with runner-up performances at the Class AA Northwest Regional Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Sharon High School and will advance to the PIAA Championships this weekend at Hershey's Giant Center.

The top-seeded Kolb (160 pounds) scored a 16-4 major decision over Sharon's Lewendo Teague, then added a 9-3 decision over Cambridge Spring's Carl Parkin in the semifinals.

In the championship round, Kolb (34-4) lost to Redbank Valley's Jonathan Brothers 3-1 in overtime. Brothers (35-1) was the No. 2 seed.

For Miller, a 6-5 decision over Oswayo Valley's Tyler Saulter was followed by a 3-1 overtime decision over Reynolds' Mike Miller.

In the championship final, Harbor Creek's Tim McAndrew decisioned Miller, 4-3.

"These kids have been working hard all year," said Grove City coach Marty Ruley. "It's nice to get two guys working together to help make each other better."

The state wrestling tournament runs Thursday through Saturday at the Giant Center in Hershey.

No area wrestlers qualified in the Class AAA division.

In Thursday's PIAA first-round match, Kolb will face Upper Dauphin's Josh Lesher (35-5), the Southeast's No. 3 seed while Miller (30-12) will square off against Hughesville's Ammon Swisher (35-5), the Northeast's No. 3 seed.

Two other Grove City wrestlers took part in Saturday's Northwest Regional.

Brady Fyffe (125, 33-11) was pinned by Reynolds' Cody Kelly in 2:57, then defeated North East's Matt Gregory 10-5 before losing to Smethport's Tim Hubbard 7-0.

Top-seeded Craig Johnson (140) decisioned Reynolds' Luke Taylor 11-6, then lost to Josh Eckendorf 3-1 in the semifinals. Johnson (32-7) was then beaten by Hickory's Fabio Boccuzzi 5-4.

Johnny Pas (103) was scheduled to compete, but suffered a broken hand which was operated on last Tuesday and had to withdraw.

Southwest AAAt the Class AA Southwest Regional at Altoona Friday, Mars' Luke Selker (130) lost to Cambria Heights' Glenn Winslow by a 9-0 major decision in the first round.Winslow would go on to capture the regional championship.In Saturday's first-round consolations, Elderton's Levi Smeltzer decisioned Selker (34-8) by a 5-3 count.Selker was the lone Mars wrestler to qualify for regional competition.Indoor Track and FieldKnoch High School senior Carol Cress captured fifth place in the girls' shot put at the Pennsylvania Indoor Track and Field Championship Saturday at Penn State University.Cress will advance to the national championships, which will be held March 14-15 in Landover, Md.
