Leslie Zoe "Les" Taylor Sonnett, 89, of New Castle Street in Slippery Rock died at 7:40 a.m. Saturday at the Grove City Medical Center.

Born in North Bessemer, Allegheny County, Sept. 11, 1918, she was a daughter of Dwight Leroy and Anna Elfreda Gerster Taylor.

She had been a co-owner of The Dress Shoppe in Slippery Rock for several years until the early 1970s. She previously had been a clerk at Bard's Dry Goods Store in Slippery Rock.

Mrs. Sonnett was a 68-year member of the Center Presbyterian Church and had served 18 years in the Sunday School Primary Department. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame for voting in every main election for more than 50 years.

She was a lover of sports, taught junior golf, and coached Little League baseball and girls softball. She played softball, golf and volleyball, bowled in several leagues and bicycled.

She was a former Girl Scout leader and was loved by all the children who knew her. Leslie loved nature and never missed a beautiful sunset. She loved the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. She also loved quilting, crocheting and sewing.

Surviving are her husband, Myron Roswell Sonnett, whom she married Dec. 12, 1940; two daughters, Sharon J. Davis and her husband, Charles, of Slippery Rock and Donna Lou Sonnett of Essex, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Joanie Sonnett of Canfield, Ohio; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Bayne of New Kensington, many nieces and nephews, and many good friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Fred M. Sonnett of Canfield; two sisters; and three brothers.

<B>SONNETT </B>— A memorial service for Leslie Zoe "Les" Taylor Sonnett, who died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Center Presbyterian Church, 211 Center St., Slippery Rock.
