James V. Ferruchie, 85, formerly of Ellwood City, died Saturday at Avalon Nursing Home, New Castle.

Born in Ellwood City, he was the son of James and Nellie Armond Ferruchie.

He retired from U.S. Steel in Ellwood City in 1975.

He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish.

He enlisted in the Army on Feb. 25, 1943, and was a private first class with the 329th Infantry Regiment. He was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars for Normandy Beach and Northern France. He was shot in both legs at St. Lo, France, on Aug. 7, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantry badge.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Gregory Ferruchie. Also surviving are a son, James A. and Sharla Ferruchie of Ellwood City; a son-in-law, Frank Pitelka of Ellwood City; a brother, Joseph and Ann Ferruchie of Ellwood City; a sister-in-law, Mary Ferruchie of Ellwood City; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy L. Pitelka on April 6, 2007; two brothers, Sylvester Ferruchie and Thomas Ferruchie; a twin brother, John Ferruchie, in infancy; and three sisters, Katherine Link, Pauline Thomas and Ann Wolfe.

Ferruchie, who died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, will be received from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the <B>Samuel Teolis Funeral Home</B>, 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City.Blessing services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev.
