Rock nets win at home

SRU tied for 4th in PSAC

SLIPPERY ROCK— Matt Schaefer scored 14 points and Jamar Scales added seven points and seven rebounds to pace the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team to a 53-43 triumph over visiting Lock Haven Saturday.

The win moved SRU (5-16, 3-4) moved into a fourth-place tie in the PSAC-West. The top four teams in each division will reach post-season play.

The 43 points allowed is the fewest allowed by an SRU team since the 1989-90 season while SRU's total was its second-lowest since 1981-82.

Julie Molloy, a Grove City High graduate, scored a team-high 17 points, but The Rock fell to visiting Lock Haven 62-59 Saturday.SRU (7-15, 1-6), which has lost five consecutive games, misfired on a pair of three-point attempts before the buzzer.Haley Gaidosh and Amanda Nero added 13 points apiece while KellyAnn Staudinger had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Brad Mueller (Mars) sprinted to a school-record time of 6.36 seconds in the 55-meter dash to key seven first-place efforts at the SRUOpen Friday.Mueller earned a provisional berth in the NCAA Division II national championship meet in March.Other winners were Chris Geddis (800, 2:00.73), Eric Novick (55 hurdles, 8.25), Steve Brenner (high jump, 6-0.75), Tim Tray (pole vault, 15-5.75), Adam Jones (35-pound weight throw, 54-7.25) and the 1,600 relay team (3:36.16).

Freeport grad Lacey Cochran (800, 2:26.85), Allison Smith (55 hurdles, 8.84) and Tiffany Tedesco (55 dash, 7.56) each won an individual event as well as teamed up with Amanda Seigworth to win the 1,600 relay (4:10.5) at the SRUInvitational Friday.Jen Hansen pole-vaulted a school-record 15 feet, 6.75 inches in winning the event as did Tina Beggs (200, 27.36), Crystal Burnick (3,000, 10:36.64), Whitney Hendershot (high jump, 5-1.75) and Jaime Wright (mile, 5:19.14).
