Robert F. 'Pap' Vogel
Robert F. "Pap" Vogel, 74, of Emporium, Cameron County, died Thursday at the Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, Elk County.
Born Oct. 28, 1933, in Warrendale, he was a son of Vincent and Mary Harrbson Vogel.
He worked on the family farm before entering the Navy and served during the Korean War from Sept. 28, 1954, to Sept. 19, 1958, when he was transferred to the Naval Reserves. He was discharged with the rank of 2nd class petty officer He served aboard the USS Coleman and on the Fireboat YBT221 and received a National Defense Medal.
Mr. Vogel was a self-employed, heavy equipment operator and small business owner who volunteered his services to many in the Emporium area.
He belonged to the Emporium Moose Lodge since 1983 and was a former member of the Chicora Moose. He also belonged to American Legion Post 194, Emporium.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Walton Vogel, whom he married May 17, 1982, in Lawrence County; four sons, Vince, Art, Bruce and Mike; three daughters, Sandy, Kate and Alley; four stepsons, Larry, Chuck, Gene and Brian; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and three brothers, Don, Ed and Richard Vogel.
