Seneca Valley High School graduate Kelly Connolly won the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.98) for the Clarion University women's swimming team in a 136-104 win over Ashland (Ohio) on Friday.
Connolly, a freshman for the Golden Eagles, was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay team.
She then helped Clarion take the 200 freestyle relay on Saturday in wins over Ashland (196-101) and Wayne State (169-127).
KAHUKU, Hawaii — Jerry Pate handled the howling wind to win the Turtle Bay Championship, closing with a 2-under 70 for a two-stroke victory over Jim Thorpe and senior rookie Fulton Allem.The 54-year-old Pate, four strokes behind leader Gil Morgan after the second round, breezed to a 5-under 211 total for his first victory in 39 starts.Allem (73) and Thorpe (74) each birdied the final hole to tie for second. Morgan (77), 2006 champion Loren Roberts (71), Wayne Grady (70) and Monday qualifier Robert Thompson (72) tied for fourth.
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Evan Lysacek won his second straight title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Sunday, though the results will show him with the same score as Johnny Weir. The two — who have combined to win the last five U.S. crowns — both finished with 244.77 points. But Lysacek won the free skate, and that's the tiebreaker.
WASHINGTON — Nationals catcher Paul Lo Duca was scheduled to have surgery on his left knee Monday to repair what his agent called a minor meniscus tear.Lo Duca will need "an estimated 3-6 weeks for full recovery," his agent, Andrew Mongelluzzi, wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Sunday.
