Japanese craft class scheduled at center

CRANBERRY TWP — For Paula Brewer, creating Japanese crafts has become a passion.

Beginning in February, she will share her habit with students at Butler County Community College's Cranberry Center.

The non-credit course, titled "Zakka — Japanese Handcrafts," will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4 and will meet weekly through April 14.

During each session, Brewer will introduce students to a new craft project. While students work on their projects, they will also learn about the culture and history of Japan.

Alex Gladis, Cranberry Center director, expects the course to attract those with an interest in culture and crafts.

Although space is still available in the first-time course, Gladis hopes to offer it in future terms.

"We do have a number of cultural, fine arts and crafts-oriented classes, and they do have a following,"Gladis said.

Registration for the course will be accepted through Jan. 30. For details, visit www.bc3.edu or call 724-772-5520.
