<B>SELLING COOKIES IN OZ </B>— Mars Girl Scouts journey through Oz to learn smart cookie-selling tips during their cookie kick-off rally Jan. 6 at the Adams Township building. Sixty-six Girl Scouts attended the event in preparation for their cookie sale, which began Friday and ends Feb. 11.

In partnership with the Moraine Trails Council, Boy Scouts, the Succop Conservancy is chartering Venture Crew 50 to provide young adult women and men, ages 16 to 20, with an opportunity to lead their generation in protecting and renewing our environment and their heritage. Crew 50 also will participate in aviation opportunities at the Butler Airport in partnership with Air Quest Aviation.

Crew members will work with master craftsmen, learning woodworking by hand and blacksmithing to restore a hay wagon and put it back into service for use at the Succop Conservancy.

The Crew will develop future activities. Crew members elect officers and run their Crew with adults serving in a mentoring/advisory role.

Crew is open to young adult women and men, ages 16 to 20. No previous scouting experience is required.

The Trefoil Neighborhood of the Keystone Tall Trees Girl Scout Council reported that Girl Scouts in the Mars area raised more than $3,000 caroling during the holiday season. The money was used to purchase Christmas gifts for 30 children from needy families in the Mars School District.According to Cindy Neff, project chairwoman, 11 families were helped. Each child received $80 in gifts, wrapping paper and tape. The families were also given a $55 gift card for food, which included a $5 per family donation from the Foodland in Mars.Also donating were H.P. Starr, Marburger Farms, Mars National Bank, McDonald-AeberliFuneral Home, North Pittsburgh Telephone Co., Purvis Brothers, Rich-Mar Rotary, Treesdale Country Club, William J. Brown Trucking, Monarck Blue Bird Bus Co., A&A Concrete and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins.
