Theresa Rice and personal freedom

Theresa Rice, in her letter to the editor, characterizes my advocacy for personal freedom as based on "a totally mistaken view of what freedom really constitutes and is." In her argument, Ms. Rice rhetorically asks "are we free to rob a bank?" What Ms. Rice fails to distinguish in her effort to limit freedoms are actions which violate another individual's rights and actions that violate no one's rights. Properly understood, freedom includes the freedom to undertake any action that does not infringe the rights of others. Utilization of drugs (when not driving, etc), while extremely foolish, does not infringe anyone's rights and should not be legislated against based on that fact.
