12:55 a.m. Tuesday — John Haslett, 24, of Butler was arrested for driving under the influence in a car reported stolen from Butler.In addition to DUI, Haslett was arraigned on charges of receiving stolen property, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, driving a car without registration and with suspended registration, and driving a vehicle with worn tires; he was later placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.Police said Christopher Otto, 24, of Butler, a passenger in Haslett's car, was found with a hypodermic needle in his pants pocket. Otto was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
4 a.m. Tuesday — Acar driven by Rudy Freshwater, 32, of Slippery Rock crashed into a utility pole along Shields Road near Route 8 in Mercer Township. Police said Shields, who fled the scene of the crash, faces undisclosed traffic violations.Monday — Glenn Cooper of Slippery Rock reported that someone between Nov. 20 and Monday stole firewood from property he owns on Route 8 in Brady Township.11:49 p.m. Sunday — Jason M. Giza, 26, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his car struck a parked truck and guardrail along Route 8 near H.P. Starr Lumber Co. in Middlesex Township. Police said Giza also faces charges for driving too fast for conditions, careless driving and a lane violation.5:53 p.m. Jan. 2 — Atractor truck driven by Michael Paul, 37, of Gainesboro, Tenn., and a sport utility vehicle driven by Darleen Fair, 29, of New Castle collided on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township.3 a.m. Jan. 1 — Acar driven by Calib Newman, 23, of Evans City crashed into a small stream along Muddy Creek Drive in Clay Township.12:22 p.m. Jan. 1 — Apickup truck driven by Patrick Eakin, 27, of Grove City skidded on the snow, struck a mailbox and rolled over along Boyers Road in Marion Township.Dec. 30 — Ty Book said an Xbox 360 gaming system valued at $350 was stolen between 1:30 and 8:30 p.m. from his New Castle Street home in Slippery Rock.12:01 a.m. Dec. 29 — Two unknown men in their early 20s are suspected of stealing two Steelers jerseys and a T-shirt from the Spillway Bar in Oakland Township. The thieves drove away in a sliver, Jeep Laredo. The stolen property is valued at $315.
10:10 a.m. Jan. 1 — Acar driven by Deidre Bovo, 21, of New Castle crashed into a utility pole after skidding off slush-covered Route 208 about one mile west of Route 19 in Springfield Township. Bovo was treated for unknown injuries at Jameson Hospital in New Castle.
