Rev. John P. Maloney

The Rev. John P. Maloney, 69, of Pittsburgh died Thursday at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless, Allegheny County.

He was born April 4, 1938, in Pittsburgh, the son of John P. and Catherine R. Quinlan Maloney.

He was raised in Lawrenceville, where he attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School on 46th Street. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and was a graduate of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia.

The Rev. Maloney was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on May 9, 1964, by Bishop John Wright of St. Paul's Cathedral in Oakland. He served as a parochial vicar at Nativity of Our Lord Church, North Side, from 1964 to 1971; parochial vicar at St. Philip Church, Crafton, from 1971 to 1973; parochial vicar at St. Kieran Church in Lawrenceville from 1973 to 1979; pastor of St. Michael Church on the South Side from 1979 to 1982; and pastor of Holy Sepulcher Church in Glade Mills, Butler County, from 1982 to 2004.

The Rev. Maloney served on the Priest Council from 1990 to 2002, the College of Consultors from 1994 to 1998 and was instrumental in fundraising, growing and building the church for Holy Sepulcher Parish.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Husar of Bristol, Pa.; his brother, Daniel L. Maloney of Levittown, Pa.; an aunt, Regina "Jean" Quinlan of Glenshaw; a cousin, Mary Agnes Benson of Strasburg, Va.; a dear friend, the Rev. William J. Rizert of Chicora; many nieces, nephews, and additional cousins.

<B>MALONEY</B> — Friends of the Rev. John P. Maloney, who died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the <B>SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, Glade Mills, with the Most Rev. Paul J. Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt.
