Blood drive set to help leukemia patient, 2

BUTLER TWP — State police in Butler will have a blood drive from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday to benefit a 2-year-old Butler resident.

Tristan Irwin was diagnosed in October with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has been receiving chemotherapy treatments and numerous blood transfusions at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The blood donor vehicle will be parked in the state police barracks parking lot, 200 Barracks Road, Butler, across from Butler High School.

Friends and family have organized the holiday blood drive to replenish the blood supply on which Tristan depends.

He is the son of Justin and Linda Irwin and has a 5-year-old sister, Alyssa.

Proper identification is required to donate blood. Donors must be 17 years old, weigh at least 105 pounds and be in generally good health.

For information or to schedule an appointment, contact Trooper Markey at 724-284-8100 Ext. 250 or online at mmarkey@state.pa.us.
