The Eagle sports department, in cooperation with area soccer coaches, has selected the 13th Butler Eagle Soccer All-Stars.

The selections were based on these criteria: offensive production, defensive effort and overall importance and value to the team. Though in some instances it was a black-and-white decision, many borderline selections were decided by coaches recommendations.

• <B>School: </B>Butler• <B>Class: </B>Senior• <B>Position: </B>Midfielder• <B>Statistics: </B>Scored 10 goals and added four assists to lead the Golden Tornado to the playoffs.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“He had the unique ability to be the fiercest competitor and, at the same time, stay calm on the field. He was our leader.” — Butler coach Troy Mohney<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Freeport• <B>Class: </B>Senior• <B>Position: </B>Midfielder/Forward• <B>Statistics: </B>Tallied 10 goals and 14 assists. Ends his career as the Yellowjackets’ all-time leader with 50 assists.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“Pete was our emotional leader. And, skill-wise, he’s the kind of player every coach desires.” — Freeport coach Chris McGrady<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Knoch• <B>Class: </B>Senior• <B>Position: </B>Goalkeeper• <B>Statistics: </B>His eight shutouts helped the Knights to a 14-4-4 record and a WPIAL playoff berth. Made countless saves in big games.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“He’s a very skilled and confident goalkeeper. He seemed to thrive on the intensity of close games.” — Knoch coach Doug Wood<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Slippery Rock• <B>Class: </B>Senior• <B>Position: </B>Midfielder• <B>Statistics: </B>Scored 16 goals and had 16 assists for the Rockets, who finished with an overall record of 17-2-1.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“An injury forced him to move from forward to midfield, but he still finished with a lot of goals and assists.” — Slippery Rock coach Anthony Buzard<BR><BR><BR><BR>

• <B>School: </B>Grove City• <B>Class: </B>Senior• <B>Position: </B>Goalkeeper• <B>Statistics: </B>Tallied nine shutouts to lead the Eagles to the District 10 playoffs.• <B>Coach’s Comments: </B>“He was a starter for three years and was one of the top goalkeepers in District 10.” — Grove City coach Brian Beil
